Because tree planting is labor-intensive, we usually need 50 to 75 volunteers at our large events. We welcome all able-bodied individuals to join us, but ask that you register your group at least one week before the planting date to ensure that we have sufficient tools, equipment, refreshments and trees available for everyone to have a meaningful experience.

Small Community Plantings
In addition to our large community events, we work with small community groups that plant trees in their neighborhoods. These community groups commit to water and monitor their new trees for two years while the root systems get established. The plantings are smaller but can definitely use additional volunteers like your group to help plant the trees. These plantings are ideal for volunteer groups of 5 to 10 people. Your volunteers work in DC neighbors planting trees in front and backyards or other public areas. They are helping community members who may be older or unable to dig. We have three small-group community plantings scheduled:
Sat. 4/14 - St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 36th Street and                                          36th St. and Mass Ave, NW (20016) Ward 3
Sun. 4/22 - Newark St. Community Gardens  3,  38th and  Macomb                                      Streets, NW (20016) Ward 3
Wed. 5/2 - Mass Ave, NW, R St and Mass Av, NW (20009) Ward 2
The Planting Day
The week of the event you will need to call us with the number of volunteers expected for your group. On the planting day, we provide all necessary materials and trained volunteers to serve as team leaders. Our team leaders work with your volunteers in small groups to ensure the trees are properly planted. Light refreshments are provided at the beginning and end of each event.

To register for an Event
An electronic version of our volunteer agreement form is available on our website to expedite your check-in process at the planting. Both sides must be filled out. Individuals under the age of 18 years-of-age must have their form signed by a legal guardian, and children under the age of 16 must be accompanied and supervised by a guardian on the day of the event.

We encourage you sign up for one or more of our plantings as well as consider taking our free volunteer training course (optional), which is offered in early March.  To learn more or sign up, call us at 202-833-4010, x109.

Thank you for offering to help Casey Trees restore DC’s legacy as the “City of Trees.”
